DEXTER - At their meeting on April 16th the Dexter Historical Society elected Vice-president Peter Prescott as President to fill the vacancy left by the death of Carl Steller. Chris Holt was elected Vice-president to replace Prescott. The exhibit that the Society presented at the SPCCC EXPO in Guilford on April 4 and 5 has now been installed at the Abbott Memorial Library. It features information on Tillsons True Value Hardware, which began as H. L. Tillson in 1900. This fourth generation business occupied a part of its current building from 1900 to 1903. Tillson subsequently formed partnerships with Dana Crockett and later with Henry Drew and was located in several different places before buying the west side of the current store in 1921 and incorporating as H. L. Tillson & Co. in 1924. DRHS Key Club members will assist with necessary clean-up jobs at the museum on community work day, May 21. June 9 was set for opening day for the Grist Mill Museum and the Carr Schoolhouse for the 2003 season. Hours will be 10:00 to 4:00, Monday through Friday and 1:00 to 4:00 on Saturday. Anyone interested in volunteering to serve as hosts or for other tasks can contact the society at 924-5721 or email: DHS. |
