After a successful exhibit run in Greenville, it was deemed appropriate that the photos be next shown at another special entry point leading into Maine's great wilderness north country. Thoreau's book, The Maine Woods, contains many comments about his Indian guides and a fascination with their values and way of life. We have chosen quotes from Thoreau to match Call's photographs at various locations where Thoreau traveled.

The Dexter Historical Society is sponsoring this high quality traveling art exhibition to get regional and national recognition for local photographer Bert Lincoln Call (1866-1965) whose art-work for many years recorded Maine's picturesque landscape. The public has not seen a large part of this extraordinary record that Call started over 120 years ago.

To achieve this end we have contacted the experienced artist and printer Todd Watts of Radio Rain Productions to restore Call's negatives and make 23” x 30” black and white prints. He is an internationally recognized photographer and respected photographic printer. He has had his own photographic work exhibited in America in more than a dozen states, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Princeton and Yale University, and The Ansel Adams Center for Photography in San Francisco. His work has been on exhibit in galleries in Paris, Vienna, Oslo, Sweden, Australia, and Canada. For over 30 years Watt's portfolios have been published by Parasol Press Ltd. Among other projects, he printed and produced all of Berenice Abbott's photographs, including nine limited edition portfolios, from 1974 until her death in 1991.

A reception and grand opening for the show will be held on Friday September 18th at noon at the Community Center on Indian Island. The public is invited.
