Alphia Small was one of the first children born in Dexter. Her sister Joannah was the first while child born here. These girls grew up and watched their father move from the camp on Main Street to Zion's Hill, build a house, and plant an orchard. Ebenezer and his son built a dam and sawmill near rhe modern site of the Brick Mill (presently Dexter Shoe Company's No. 1 shop on Water Street). Alphia married Abel Abbott, and their son, Peter Amos Abbott, was the grandfather of Ruth Dudley, who currently lives on Forest Street.
