A c. 1890 photograph of Dirigo Hose Company No. 4 with their hose sleigh, taken near Amos Abbott & Company dye house on Grove Street. From left to right are: Frank Shaw, George Hall, Grank Carne, Almont Grant, Harold Crosby, Willis Haseltine, William Jackson, Dr. Charles Ryan, Owen R. Brewster, and Charles Bean. Several members are worthy of mention: Owen R. Brewster went on to become governor of Maine, a member of the House of Representatives, and a U.S. Senator; Harold Crosby became a composer of sorts, composing a number of military marches; Charles Ryan became a local veterinarian; Charles Bean was responsible for the building of several brick structures in town; Willis Haseltine was a businessman for many years in the harness business; and George Hall opened a canning factory.
