Henry Paine Dexter dedicated his life to building Dexter. He constructed up to eighty dwellings along the Methodist, Congregational, and Catholic churches. He renovated the Universalist church. He built or renovated many of the business buildings on Main Street, including the present Ben Franklin, WGUY, and Jim Peakes Blocks. Mr. Dexter died in 1939 at the age of ninety-seven.
